Candyland has to be one of the most classic childhood games ever and still remains to be a favorite even to this day. It is truly one of those games that gets passed on from generation to generation, which is why it makes for such a great inspiration for your scrapbook projects, cards, and pages! This post will share some of our favorite ideas for scrapbook pages and projects you can make based on this game.
How to Find CandyLand related scrapbooking supplies
Because Candyland is a registered trademark, finding supplies may be difficult to do. The best way to get all the authentic supplies you could ever need (and for less than what you would pay for a pack of paper and elements!) is to buy a game. You can order it online at Amazon
or hunt through your closet, yard sales, flea markets, and auction websites. Keep in mind that older versions are beginning to become valuable and collectors items since any type of toy popular with 3-4 year olds that can sustain the wear and tear and not lose any pieces is rare – so if you do have an older version in good condition, it may be wiser to buy a new one for using in your pages.
Here are some ideas and creative ways to use your game to create pages, albums, cards and more:
Use the Game Board for a Cover: Game boards make for great covers if you are looking for a uniqiue way to bind your pages. You can cut it into two pieces, one for the front and one for the back, then punch holes in it or glue it to the top and bottom of an album you purchased.
Cut Up The Game Board for Inside Pages: The game board is where most of the best graphics are, so it can also be a nice touch to add it your pages. Just keep in mind game boards are typically pretty thick – so you may want to consider scanning it on your scanner and then printing that in full color as an alternative if you plan on creating pages that will going into an album. If you plan on framing the page however, this is a great way to add depth and color. Cut out the trails, the scenes from each character, or individual pieces. An exacto knife (or similiar alternative) will help you get precise cuts.
Use the Cards Creatively: The game cards can also be used in a number of different ways. Use a single card for a journal tag for writing a date, time, or place. Use multiple cards to create frames, paper flowers, or page borders
Use Game Piece Characters: The character game pieces from the game (those cute little gingerbread men you move across the board) are a bit thick to be including on most scrapbook pages, but they can be used in a number of ways. One method is to photograph them with your digital camera and then you can print them out or use a program like Photoshop Elements to extract them in your digital scrapbook pages.
Embellish With Candy Pieces: If the thought of cutting up a candyland gameboard breaks your heart (as it may for many people!) and are not the best at photographing items to use in your layout, the good news is you can get by with using candy themed scrapbook elements and papers. There are a number of digital scrapbooking kits with a candy or gingerbread man theme, and if you do paper scrapping you can find candy elements at just about any craft store. Clearance Christmas sets are especially good for this if they have candycanes and gumdrops, or you may find some good choices with birthday themed scrapbook kits that include items like cupcakes.
Make a Tagger Album: If you find yourself with a lot of leftover game cards, a fun thing to do is to create a small tagger album from the small cards. Create a mini-layout on the card with your leftove materials, then simply punch holes and fasten with binder rings
